A Book Lover's Guide to China and Self-Publishing: By Sasha Zhao

Before beginning to make a magazine on Chinese art publishing, we spent a long time researching and reviewing the history of self-publishing and the artist's book that has happened and is going on in China. The history can be very long and short at the same time. It hasn't even started. We will meet with you before the magazine finally appears and share a brief history of the young and Chinese-related art practice.

P___PAL was initiated by the editorial department of art book in China (abC) in November 2019 and published in January 2020. It is a bilingual magazine on art books and bookmakers, with a particular focus on the art self-publishing panorama in the Greater China Region. The cover story of the first issue was filmed in the childhood home of artist Wen Ling, talking about the changes in creation and life, and the myths that have influenced the millennium. The Special Topic traces back to the core of Rock Zines with a DIY spirit, Chinese independent music labels, and their publications.
