Disguised as a Hong Kong softcore magazine, Salty Wet is a chapbook of smut and affect, a first volume of a subsequent series, in a collaboration between Speculative Space and Inpatient Press. It takes the form of an anti-travelogue essay on distance and desire within and without Hong Kong. Combining writing, screenshots, and film stills, the essay poses questions about how to forge care for a place from afar, especially one as mythical as Hong Kong is in the cultural consciousness. Beyond the narratives of history and news journalism, Salty Wet attempts to reconcile the paradox between the lived and hypermediated experience of political entropy. The first volume is in the Asia Art Archive, included among a collection of anti-extradition law amendment bill protest print materials. It has also been included in a group show at Chen’s in New York, and featured in Artforum, Artforum China, Hyperallergic, and The Atlantic. Tiffany Sia will be reading from Salty Wet, as well as select excerpts from the forthcoming second volume, Too Salty Too Wet.

Tiffany Sia is an independent film producer, writer and artist. She is the founder of Speculative Place, an experimental, independent project space hosting residents working in film, writing and art in Hong Kong. Tiffany is an executive producer of the feature-length political science-fiction thriller Empty Metal, directed by Adam Khalil and Bayley Sweitzer, about a punk band who is coersed into an assassination plot by an underground group of telepathic insurrectionists. She is also the Executive Producer on a forthcoming documentary feature, Ancestors in the Archives, directed by Adam Khalil and Zack Khalil, on the fight to return and rebury indigenous human remains which have been imprisoned in the sterile archives of settler-colonial museums and universities.

Mitch Anzuoni is an editor, designer, and executive janitor at Inpatient Press based in New York City. Their work with Inpatient is featured in collections at the Library at the Museum of Modern Art, Asia Art Archive Hong Kong, the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music, the Mendel Music Library at Princeton University, the Blumenthal Library at the New England Conservatory, and many other fine institutions worldwide.
