Debussy Violin Sonata in G minor
Shostakovich Piano Trio No.2 in E minor,
for violin, cello and piano, Op.67
Tiffany Leung Commissioned work for violin, viola and guzheng
Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat, Op.44

With its roots dating back to the 1840s, Tai Kwun symbolized the very first attempt to establish legal, judicial and correctional institutions in colonial Hong Kong. Numerous occupants have left their marks and stories behind at this former Central Police Station compound, with perhaps the unanimous desire for justice and redemption.

Throughout history, many composers have been subjected to injustices, resulting in struggles and censure at the hands of contemporaries and even the sovereign. This is especially poignant for those caught up in the political turmoil of the two World Wars. The fates and works by composers such as Bartók and Shostakovich closely mirrored and reflected currents of their times. Yet, despite their miseries, these greats have all been redeemed as their oeuvres survive and continue to be heard around the world.

Renowned cellist Trey Lee, celebrated violinist Dong-Suk Kang, Berlin Philharmonic violinist Dorian Xhoxhi and violist Sebastian Krunnies, as well as other local talents join hands to perform chamber gems by these masters. The concert also features new score by Tiffany Leung, a commissioned work inspired by this unique heritage site.

The concerts tickets are available for purchase on cityline.com.
