"Start From Scratch was a fanzine that covered Hong Kong’s buoyant local skateboarding and punk music scenes of the late 90s and early 00s. It was the first time I’d been exposed to the kind of handmade media that was talking about the environment around me rather than showing a glossy representation of 'aspirational' lives utterly foreign to my own experience. Threading a fine line between the physical limitations of the human body and the expanse of a collective memory, the moving-image works in this program memory bring back comforting sensations of familiar streets and the exhilarating joy of repeated movements all compressed within a media timeline. Meanwhile, scrapbook audio recordings and second-hand image sources imaginatively fill in the blanks of personal histories. With the screen stretching far beyond Cinemascope, do we now have no boundaries? At least three sneezes are promised. Make what you will of the rest. You may think we are through with the past, but the past certainly isn’t through with us." - Simon Liu

Committed to building long-term and sustainable dialogue with our visitors, Hong Kong cultural critics, and intellectuals, Film After Hour shows a selection of moving image work following a thematic every season. Film After Hour is a sub-programme of Art After Hours, an event series presented by Tai Kwun Contemporary that will talk with you, sing with you, and strive to always show you something new. Usually taking place every Friday at 7pm, Art After Hours welcomes all visitors to experience contemporary art in Hong Kong live. Artists, writers, public intellectuals, and curators are invited to engage in talks, performances, and screenings.
