Intentionally or not, domestic collecting often occupies our quotidian. Going against this pervasive culture of investment-driven collecting culture, Short Hair Studio proposes “Collections of Tom, Debbie and Harry”, an exhibition featuring artworks about collections created in collaboration with avid local collectors. An eclectic assemblage of narratives of Hong Kong pieced together using collections of newspapers, photographs and assorted mementos, Short Hair Studio traces a timeless memory punctuated by moments of recognition instead of the tyranny of the clock.
Typically rejected in the context of traditional museum, this exhibition argues the perspective of the ‘outsider’ collector lays the historical groundwork for telling an alternative story of the future. Time capsules are usually formulated on the verge of apocalyptic crises, and the setting of this exhibition is no different. Led by researcher Phoebe Wong, the artists and curators of “Collections of Tom, Debbie and Harry” will discuss the role of aesthetic intervention in a collection and how to develop narrative momentum within an exhibition’s static space.
“Art After Hours” is an evening event series presented by Tai Kwun Contemporary that will talk with you, sing with you, show and tackle something new every time. Usually held on Fridays at 7pm, “Art After Hours” aims to sharpen art awareness through talks, performances and screenings by artists, writers, intellectuals and curators alike.
