The Founding Pianos Collection
Enjoy an evening of Mozart at his finest, as the world-renowned fortepianist Geoffrey Lancaster presents four of the composer’s most charming sonatas for the fortepiano, played on a keyboard modelled from Mozart’s time.
The recital coincides with an installation of rare and important pianos that will tour Hong Kong in November. The collection, known as ‘Founding Pianos’, and considered one of the world’s most significant collections of 18th and 19th century pianos, includes Australia’s historic First Fleet piano — the first instrument to arrive in Australia in 1788 — a piano owned by the flute player in the orchestra of the composer Joseph Haydn and several of the last surviving pianos made by Europe’s greatest master makers.
Never-before-seen in Hong Kong, the collection also features some exceptionally rare and unique stringed keyboard instruments dating from 1736 to 1874.
The “All About Mozart” recital and Founding Pianos installation is brought to you by Edith Cowan University, Western Australia. For more information visit: https://foundingpianos.com.au/
